Israel has launched a military invasion of the Gaza strip. This comes on top of two years of systematic oppression and inhuman treatment by the Israeli state, who have kept the borders of Gaza arbitrarily closed for electricity, sewage, fuels and humanitarian aid.

Now Hamas are being targeted because extremists have launched homemade rockets into Israeli territory. First of all, it is not hard to understand why some people resort to such measures, when their country and society is being systematically strangled. Even so, war and killing is never a solution to any conflict, and the attacks of Hamas should stop.
Secondly of all, what Israel has now done is to launch the world's fourth strongest army against a comparatively small political group in one of the world's denseliest populated areas: the Gaza strip. In such an area, it is impossible to guarantee the safety of the civilian population. The Israeli government tries to do this, but still civilian Palestinians keep getting killed and hurt.

I plead for all DeviantARTists to show their solidarity with the people of Gaza. Their continuing struggle for freedom and dignity deserves our support and respect.
